Our El Super contract has been ratified!

Our El Super contract has been ratified!
Raises for everyone. Immigration protections secured. Ratification bonuses included.

After 10 months at the bargaining table, countless conversations with co-workers, actions in our stores, powerful support from customers and the community, and an overwhelming member vote, we have ratified our contract with El Super Markets.

Because we stood together, this contract delivers:

✔ Wage increases for everyone
✔ Immigration protections
✔ Ratification bonuses (instead of retro pay)
✔ And more

This didn’t happen by accident. It happened because we showed up. We signed petitions. We talked to our customers. We marched in front of our stores and Chedraui USA headquarters. We spoke out to the media about dignity, safety, and respect. Every action moved the company.

While this contract may not include everything we fought for, it represents real movement and proof of what’s possible when we stand in solidarity with our co-workers and our community. Imagine what we can achieve on the next contract when we all work together. That work starts now.

If you have questions about the agreement or what happened at the bargaining table, reach out to your Bargaining Committee Member, Steward, or Union Representative.

January 22, 2026 – Negotiations with El Super #7

Nuestro mensaje tuvo impacto.

The company made us a “last, best, and final” offer.   But nothing is final until we vote.

Yesterday, we joined with customers, community members, and faith leaders in a powerful march on El Super’s USA headquarters in Commerce to deliver thousands of petitions calling on the company to protect the people who make their profits possible, and respect the workers who are being offered pennies while asking for dignity and security. (Watch the story on Telemundo and ABC.)

We clearly made an impact, because today, after months of demanding immigration protections in the contract, they finally made movement on immigration language, including agreeing to post a “Private Area” sign outside all employee-only areas of the store.

These proposals, as well as others, were made as part of a “last, best, and final” offer.

What’s a “last, best, and final” (LBF) offer?

A last, best, and final offer is when the company presents a proposal that they say reflects the strongest terms they are prepared to offer. A last, best, and final offer is one step in the bargaining process, not the end of the process. You decide when the process is over. Nothing is final until we vote.

What’s next?

The bargaining committee is meeting on February 3rd to discuss the proposal, and determine next steps. Along with our representatives, we’ll be spending this next week talking with our co-workers about the proposal, and getting your input, which will inform our response.

If you have any questions about the negotiations, or the vote, don’t hesitate to contact a coworker from the bargaining committee, a member of the worker action committee, and a union organizer.

El Super Rakes In Huge Holiday Profits While Our Families Go Hungry- We’re not going to accept this miserable offer

We have been negotiating with El Super since April, and the company continues to refuse to offer the fair wages we have earned and deserve. While El Super’s parent company, Chedraui USA, brings in billions of dollars in profits, workers are being asked to accept poverty wages.

Every day, especially during this busy holiday season, we work tirelessly to keep food on the table for our communities. Yet El Super’s low wages make it increasingly difficult for us to provide for our own families.

El Super has rejected nearly all of our proposals, including meaningful wage increases and clear, common-sense immigration policies to protect workers and customers in the event of ICE activity – protections that other major grocery chains agreed to in recently settled contracts.

Instead, the company is offering only pennies above minimum wage. That is unacceptable. We deserve better, and we will continue to fight for what we’ve earned.

This week, a federal mediator joined the negotiations. The mediator serves as a neutral party to help ensure that bargaining is productive and fair, and their involvement underscores how far apart the parties remain.

Next steps

Our next bargaining dates are scheduled for January 16 and January 22, 2026. Stay connected with your co-workers, stewards, and bargaining committee members for updates and information about how we will continue to stand up and fight back.

If you have any questions about the negotiations, don’t hesitate to contact a coworker from the bargaining committee, a member of the worker action committee, and a union organizer.

October 10, 2025- Negotiations with El Super # 5

El Super Isn’t that Super for Workers and Customers

Our Super Struggle Expands to the Stores

Our bargaining committee has just concluded two days of negotiations with El Super. Despite reaching agreements on some minor issues, we are deeply disappointed to report that El Super continues to stall on the core economic items and protections that we have fought for over the last six months. The company is not yet willing to invest in us, the workers who make their success possible.

El Super is still refusing to adequately address our core priorities:

  • Strong immigration protections for our members and customers.
  • Safer stores for workers and customers alike.
  • Living wages that truly reflect our experience, quality service, and commitment to our communities and the company itself.

Our contract expired in April, and we have been negotiating since then. After six months of pushing for a fair contract that improves our stores, our working conditions, and helps the company grow, El Super is still refusing to recognize our worth.

But we are not backing down, and we are not alone! Our community has our backs. Neighbors, faith leaders, and workers’ rights advocates have been standing with us, delivering petitions to El Super management calling for a fair contract, better stores, and protections for our immigrant communities.

Our unity is our greatest strength. Together, with our community banding with us, we will escalate our actions until the company feels the pressure to do what’s right. This fight is far from over, and we will not be silenced until we have a contract that reflects our value and dignity.

We demand a fair contract, one that values our effort and loyalty! Let’s show El Super that workers are united and steadfast.

Wear your campaign button, talk to your coworkers, and let’s keep fighting together!

If you have any questions about the negotiations, don’t hesitate to contact a coworker from the bargaining committee, a member of the worker action committee, and a union organizer.

September 11,2025- Negotiations with El Super # 4

El Super Needs to Take Negotiations Seriously

It’s Time for El Super to Listen to Its Workers and Customers!

Our bargaining team met with El Super today for our fourth bargaining session. The main focus was our economic proposal for living wages, that keep up with the cost of living.

We are fighting for wages that not only allow us to survive, we need El Super to compensate us for our work with fair wages that allow us to live with dignity!

The company rejected our proposed wage increase, coldly arguing that “it doesn’t work for them,” a response that not only ignores but disregards the unwavering dedication of those of us who, as essential workers, risked our lives to keep operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. And to this day, we continue to give this company our hundred percent unconditionally.

With their insulting responses, El Super is forcing us to escalate our fight. And we are not alone: our loyal customers, our allies, and our community are with us.

Workers representing all seven stores also delivered our contract demands in person to the company, signed and backed by all workers to make it clear that we won’t give up in our fight for a fair contract.

We are back to negotiations on October 9 and 10. In the meantime, let’s show El Super that workers are united and steadfast. We demand a fair contract, one that values our effort and loyalty!

Wear your campaign button, talk to your coworkers, and let’s keep fighting together!

If you have any questions about the negotiations, don’t hesitate to contact a coworker from the bargaining committee, a member of the worker action committee, and a union organizer.

El Super Turns Its Back on Workers and Customers

Our fight at El Super is just beginning!

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

On Monday, June 9, our bargaining committee met with El Super for our second round of negotiations.

Given the emergency situation our communities are experiencing due to the aggressive immigration attacks by the federal administration, we began the session by revisiting our proposal to implement a protection plan for customers and workers during immigration operations.

Members of the bargaining committee took the floor to emphasize the importance of this issue for the Latino community. They stressed the importance of creating a space where they can shop in our stores and feel safe while shopping.

We demand that the company assume its responsibility to protect everyone who enters the stores; that it commits to closing stores during curfews or raids; paying salaries during potential store closures; granting members leaves of absence for possible family detentions; restricting ICE access to private areas without a warrant; and refraining from sharing worker information not required by a warrant.

The company reiterated its position that it will comply with federal laws and did not provide any concrete responses. It assured that it would analyze the requests and provide a response in upcoming negotiations. There is too much at stake for our communities, and we will continue to insist on achieving protections in our contract.

We also presented our economic proposals, including more hours and wages that will allow us to support our families. The company promised to respond in upcoming negotiations.

April 29, 2025

El Super Disrespected our Contract Proposals – It’s time El Super respects the work we do!

On April 28 and 29, 2025, we met with El Super for our first round of bargaining with the largest bargaining committee we’ve ever had. We showed up as a strong, united force of proud members ready to get the contract we deserve.

We began the bargaining session by presenting our non-economic proposals, including immigration-related protections in our workplace, fair scheduling, more guaranteed hours, seniority protections, and improved safety in the stores.

The company rejected almost all of our proposals. They think the current contract is fine as is; it’s working well for them. They didn’t care that we are struggling, that we are concerned about our safety in this federal climate, that we are not okay. They do not care about us, its workers and the communities we serve!

It’s time to fight to make our jobs and our lives better. We must not accept a contract that is anything less than what we deserve. Whether we’re at the bargaining table or in the stores, we need to show El Super that we’re serious about our proposals and that we’re ready to stand together to get a strong contract. We are tired of being treated as second class with many of our coworkers barely above minimum wage despite decades of service! Enough is enough!

What’s next?

We have to continue to build power so that the companies come to the table with serious proposals that value our work. Only by rising up together can we change our workplaces, not only for us, but for our co-workers as well.

Rise up by:

Following your UFCW 1428’s website and social media accounts! These platforms are where the most up-to-date information will be housed. Workers can find bargaining updates there and other content about the contract fight, so make sure all of your co-workers also follow the accounts to combat the companies’ misinformation campaign!

If you have any questions about bargaining don’t hesitate to reach out to your Bargaining Committee Member, Contract Action Team Member, or Union Organizer.

In Solidarity,

Your El Super Bargaining Committee
